The Basic Of Kite Control Bars
To fly a kite, you need to use a control bar. Control bars channel the power of the wind and give steerage. Kite manufacturers have developed their unique own designs, but all kite control bars still serve the same purpose – to control the kite.
Kite control bars enable kitesurfers to accelerate turn, slow down, turn or jump. Moreover, some high-end safety systems are offered by the most advanced models of control bars.
Generally, most modern kite bars are made of aluminum and carbon and are coated with soft rubber grips to protect kitesurfers' hands. In addition, brands sell color-coded kite bars to improve riding orientation.
It is important to know how control bars work. A control bar is composed of the following parts:
Control Bar: the steering wheel for the kite;
Chicken Loop: an important ring that detaches the surfer from the kite via the harness. It allows the rider to depower rapidly either by pull systems or push away systems;
Safety Leash: a strong spring-loaded cord connected to the safety line on the kite that you keep your wing close to you even after releasing the chicken loop;
Stopper Ball: it enables to set the bar at a specific power level without having to bear any load on your arms;
Floaters: two sponges that allow the bar to float and protect the surfer from getting injured with the lines;
Quick Release System: a bar mechanism that when pulled, twisted or pushed will immediately depower the kite and release the rider from the wing's power;
Trim System: a system that allows the rider to increase or reduce the kite's power without moving the bar;
Winding Posts: two pieces that allow to wrap up of the kite lines.
